16DW822: An Introduction to Scratch Programming in the Classroom (PDST/Lero)
Beginners/Basic Course
Scratch is a free application, developed by the MIT Media Lab, which allows users to create and share their own interactive stories, animations and games.
It is easier to use than traditional programming languages as it consists of graphical blocks which snap together.
This course, over 2 Saturdays enables teachers to use Scratch to support teaching and learning, both at primary and post primary level. Suitable for Primary and Post primary teachers.
The course was designed by PDST Technology in Education in collaboration with Lero.

16DW823: Digital Assessment Portfolios: Evernote and Web Clipper
In this session we will show you how to download and utilise Evernote to create Digital Assessment Portfolios for your students and give oral and written feedback in an individual’s portfolio. We will explore how to take notes, file documents, circulars, resources, websites, schemes to be accessed anywhere. Evernote Web Clipper is an extension for capturing articles, images, emails, text. Save everything to Evernote and keep it forever! You’ll never lose a link or website again.

16DW824: Digital Storytelling: Animoto, Flipsnack
We will show you how to turn ordinary photos and video clips into stunning videos with Animoto. It is perfect for bringing school and classroom photos to life and can be embedded on your school website or blog.
With Flipsnack, we will show you how to create stylish digital flipbooks which can be shared online or embedded into your website or blog.

16DW825: Sound in the Classroom: Soundcloud, Voki, Audacity
We will introduce you to Soundcloud, the world’s leading social sound platform, which is ideal for podcasting and recording in the classroom.
We will show you how to create your own talking character in Voki. Characters can be customised to look like historical figures, cartoons, animals and are a great incentive for children in recording oral work.
Audacity is a free open source digital audio editor and recording computer software application, ideal for recording reading and creating podcasts.

16DW826: Exploring the use of Tablets in the Primary Classroom (Basic /Beginners’ Course)
(Participants must have their own/ school iPad): Explore the use of iPads to enhance teaching, learning and assessment in the Primary classroom. Create teaching and learning resources. Use iPads to support literacy and numeracy development in the classroom. Module 1: Getting to know the tablet (iPad) and some apps
This module provides an introduction to using a tablet for novice users, covering navigation and in-built tools such as multi-gesture controls and the integrated camera. Participants learn how to access and use both pre-loaded and new apps. As well as learning about their practical uses, the apps are critically analysed in the context of active learning methodologies.
Module 2: Generating content for Literacy and Numeracy
This module covers how to create your own teaching resources for literacy and numeracy. It includes maths trails and ways to use tablets/apps for open-ended investigation (problem solving).
Module 3: Literacy apps and bringing our stories to life
This module focuses on apps that can be used to support literacy in the context of key topics to include reading, writing, oral language, vocabulary and spelling. There is a particular focus on the multimedia presentation of stories in this module, such as comics; animations, presentations and short movies.
